-I Corinthians 3:9, Mark 10:45

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Eph. 2:10) (NLT)

1. You are God’s ___________________

The craftsman determines the ________________.

(God) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began (II Timothy 1:9)

2. ______________ is the model for the masterpiece

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. (Romans 8:28,29)

3. God’s been working on you for a __________   ________.

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Phil. 2:12,13)

Now may the God of peace…may He equip you with all you need for doing his will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him…(Heb.13:20-21) (also Ephesians 5:8-10)

4. God expects you _____ what He created you to _____.

-I Cor. 6:20

5. Before you serve you must first be __________. (Eph. 2:1-9)

Jesus, I want a relationship with You. I’m sorry for messing up. I confess today that I am a sinner. I need your forgiveness and grace. Today, I trust You as my personal Saviour.   And Lord, I want to do what you’ve left me here to do. Do Your work in me. Teach me. Mould me in to what You want me to be. Show me Your purpose for my life. For the rest of my life I promise to serve You!

Digging Deeper

Q1: Have you ever been blessed by an experience where you have received impeccable service or, perhaps, dreadful service?  If so, explain what happened and how you felt in the midst of that experience.  Can you think of any spiritual application in light of what you experienced?

Q2: Pastor David said that salvation comes before service.  However, you may know people who demonstrate a giving, servant heart even though they are not saved.  What does the Lord think about such service?  How does serving as a believer change the impact of our actions?

Q3: Read Joshua 24:15, Daniel 3:17-18, Matthew 6:24 and Colossians 3:23-24.  What do these verses teach us about serving the Lord?

Q4: What comes to your mind when you think of “masterpiece”?  In your mind, what sets something apart as a “masterpiece”?  On what basis could we be viewed by God as a “masterpiece”?

Q5: Ephesians 2:10 declares that the good works the Lord expects us to do have already be prepared in advance by Him.  How does this truth encourage you in your service?  What do you think God’s preparation looks like or includes?

Q6: In Ephesians 2:8-10 the Apostle Paul makes it clear that Good works are the fruit of salvation not the root of salvation.  If you have put your faith in Jesus and have been born again by His Spirit, describe how and when that happened.  Since being saved, how have you served your Master?
