Christian Education Committee

Do you remember everything you learned in school? Of course not! Like anything else, you need to use it or lose it. That’s why we think it is important to continually be studying God’s Word. The Christian Education Committee monitors the content, teaching, equipping, Scriptural principals and direction used in all church educational programs—Sunday school, Junior church, fellowship groups, library—as well as coordinating the nursery program. The committee is chaired by the one of our Pastors, has a Secretary, as well as the Heads of the various Christian Ed ministry teams. The committee should be a resource to these various groups in discerning acceptable printed or audio-visual commercial material.

Children’s Sunday School

We offer Sunday School from 9:30am to 10:45am for kids ages three through to high school and teach children and youth more about God, the Bible, and how to it applies to our lives. Individuals who wish to encourage our youth in Christian values and grow in their faith should be part of this program. Commitment is required September to June.

Junior Church

We offer Junior Church during the morning service for kids ages 3–11. Following the offering during the service, children are invited to go downstairs for their own Bible teaching time. Individuals who wish to encourage our youth in Christian values and grow in their faith should be part of this program. Commitment is required September to June.

Adult Bible Teachers

Adult Bible School Teachers are involved in a teaching ministry that inspires the spiritual lives of adults. The gift and talent of teaching is an asset. Course preparation and study time is required for each weekly presentation during Sunday School. A commitment is required from September through June.

Kamp Agapae

Kamp is a children’s summer day camp run at the church. It is an evangelistic opportunity to reach children for Christ while having fun, playing games, singing songs and learning about Jesus. There is a requirement for organizational and leadership skills. Workers are to be trained in discipline procedures, assisting children in craft projects, story telling, Christian witness, and participating in and leading children activities.

Librarian, AV

The AV librarian gives a discerning preview of audio-visual material maintained in the church library for acceptable Christian contents or intent. Included are DVDs, VHS tapes, cassettes, etc for all ages. An administrative gift is an asset to maintain records or standard library procedures and identification.

Librarian, reading

The reading librarian gives a discerning preview of books maintained in the church library for acceptable Christian contents or intent. Included are fiction and non-fiction reading material for all ages. An administrative gift is an asset to maintain records or standard library procedures and identification.

Nursery

Nursery workers should be gifted with patience, compassion and tenderness in order to minister to the newborn to three year old children. The nursery cares for children during the 11 am service. There is a coordinating head that look after scheduling, cleanliness of the facilities and equipment to ensure adequate child care. There are also Leaders (6–10 adults) and Junior Leaders (6–10 youths) needed to serve on a rotational basis.

Small Groups

The purpose of this ministry is to direct and encourage self discovery of the truths and teaching of the Scriptures. There is a mix of encouragement, teaching; sharing time and prayer, depending on the group dynamics. The groups are organized to meet perceived needs—discipline, growth, thematic study, book study—for the new believer to the maturing Christian. An average group has 6–10 people, including a leader.

Summer Children’s Bible School

During the summer, Alta Vista does not run the our regular Sunday School and Junior Church program, however it does like to offer a summer children’s program for children of all ages. This ministry requires leaders and helpers who will commit to one week in the summer to instruct, teach and supervise children.
