We believe that the family is a vital social structure in our society. We have ministries targeted to specific segments of our church family – from children to seniors – but we also hold events such as picnics, games nights, or sporting events for fellowship and fun for the whole family. The Family Ministries Committee has a coordinating Head and additional members to help with administration. Each of the groups below also has their own team of volunteers to run the ministry.
Each time communion is taken at Alta Vista an offering plate is passed around to collect donations for a benevolent fund to meet the needs of those struggling to make ends meet, both within our church and within our community. A coordinator is responsible for managing this fund discretely and distributing it as he/she sees fit.
J.O.Y. Just Older Youth
This ministry caters to the seniors of our church. A coordinator plans organizes and completes monthly programs which include fellowship, devotionals, special speakers, and excursion to places of interest for those to be considered seniors of our church.
A kitchen manager oversees use of the church kitchen by setting standards of cleanliness and neatness, ensuring equipment is serviceable, maintaining ample supplies, and giving clear instructions to users of facilities. Teams of people are often needed to help with serving, and cleaning up at events, such as our monthly “AV Café” potluck lunch.
This ministry is about men serving men. The team requires men with the ability to plan and organize events that encourage men to grow spiritually, whether through study, fellowship, or service.
T.L.C. The Ladies Connection
This ministry is ladies ministering to ladies. Members must have administrative skills, creative abilities, and be a team player. The T.L.C. group plans, organizes, and coordinates both.
This ministry is for those who are an encouragement and comfort to others in the church. Members may respond to enquiries from newcomers, visit the sick or mourning, or give a helping hand to the elderly, for example. Telephoning and written correspondence are also acceptable means. This is a heart driven commitment for as often as you desire to serve.
Workers assist the youth pastor in fulfilling the teen program by teaching, counselling and organizing. Oversight will be needed at some events.
