Know that God loves you and has a plan for your life
God created you in His image and loves you very much. He wants you to have a more abundant life and live to your fullest potential.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Admit your need (“I am a sinner”).
God is absolutely holy and we are not able to stand before him on our own. None of us is righteous, not even one.
Our sin separates us from God. Without addressing our sin, we are destined for an eternity apart from him, known as hell. But, if we accept that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose again, and if we turn from our current ways, we are destined for eternal life with Him in heaven.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Confess and turn from your sins (repent).
We live in a sinful world and struggle with our bad habits and imperfect nature. To become a Christian, we must confess and ask forgiveness for our sins. God has promised that all those who come to Him, honestly asking forgiveness, will be saved from His wrath and be given the Holy Spirit to help us live a better life.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9
Choose to let God be Lord of your life
So God has given us a choice, each with its own consequences. We can choose to live our life the way we want to live it and be forever separated from God, or we can choose to invite him into our lives, letting him guide and direct us and shape us for heaven.
By believing through faith in what God has done for you, and in asking Jesus to lead your life, you can receive the gift of God’s saving grace. It cannot be earned or purchased in any way – it is a gift from God.
“I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me” Revelation 3:20
When you accept Jesus as your saviour, you are adopted into God’s family of believers and you have the privilege of becoming a child of God. It is the beginning of a new life with a personal relationship with God and the revelation of His plan for you.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast“ Ephesians 2:8-9
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—“John 1:12
