Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”            (Romans 15:1-2) (Message)

1. Overwhelming _________ are always all around us. (vs.1-4)

When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd…(Mark 6:34a)

Digging Deeper

Q1: When you pass a street person do you offer them money?  Why or why not?

Q2: Have you ever gone through a time when your resources were not sufficient to match your need?  How did that feel?  How did the Lord provide?

Q3: What do the following verses say to you about your responsibility to be involved in meeting needs? Proverbs 14:21,31;  19:17;  21:13;  22:9, 16,22; 28:27; 29:27; 31:9,20,  I John 3:18,19a, Matthew 5:16, II Corinthians 9:11-12.  

Q4: Have you ever experienced God’s boomerang blessing; you give sacrificially to meet a need and then an unexpected blessing or provision flows into your life?  If so, explain.

Q5: Read Isaiah 58:6-11.  What promises are offered?  What premises are these promises built upon?  What is one particular word or idea that strikes your heart?

Q6: Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away.  Thankful people are giving people.  What can you give away…time, money, stuff, energy, skills…as an expression of your thanks to God?

Q7: Pastor David said “nothing happens until you DO something”.  What specific thing is God calling you to DO in order to meet a need?
