Judges 3:5-11
“But when they cried out to the Lord, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them.” Judges 3:9
What has happened so far (Genesis to Judges 3:4) in 4 minutes…
3 Principles found in the account of Othniel
1) ________________-__________________________ (vs. 7)
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7
2) How God Brings About __________________ (vs. 8-9)
“Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalm 139:24
(2 Chronicles 7:14, Proverbs 28:13, Jeremiah 15:19)
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” Acts 3:19
(Matthew 4:17, Acts 2:38, 2 Peter 3:9)
3) Breaking The Cycle Of __________ (vs. 9-11) See Judges 2:18-22
“I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” Revelation 1:18
(John 5:22-27, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 2 Timothy 4:1-8)
Digging Deeper
Q1: Read 1 John 5:18-21. What are some modern idols in your life? Why are modern idols difficult to discern?
Q2: How are you making sure you remember in your heart what you know in your head about God?
Q3:Do you consciously enjoy the “peace” of having been saved from sin and freed from slaving or idols? How will you enjoy this peace this week?
Q4: Read Revelation 1:12-18. How does the truth about your Judge make you feel about being a Christian today?
Q5: In prayer ask God to reveal any vicious cycles in your life. If He reveals anything, ask for God’s guidance and your CareGroup’s help to break the cycle.
