Text: 2 Corinthians 4-5

  • F_____________ (where we are at)
  • On earth we feel _________________ (2 Cor. 4:8) (2 Cor. 7:5)
  • On earth we feel ______________________ (2 Cor. 4:8)
  • On earth we feel ______________________ (2 Cor. 4:9)
  • On earth we feel ______________________ (2 Cor. 4:9)
  • TO  (where we are _____________)

2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 5:1-2

The only way Paul can say our suffering is light and momentary is by comparing it to _______________________!

  • From outward decay TO inward _______________ (2 Cor. 4:16)
  • From temporary TO __________________  (2 Cor. 4:18)

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.       (I John 2:17)

  • T_____________ (how we’re going to get there)
  • Fix your eyes on what is _____________ (2 Cor. 4:18)

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. (1 Corinthians 13:12)

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in the place of honor and power.  Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. (Col. 3:1-2)

  • Make a decision to live by ______________  (2 Cor. 5:7)

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)

To transition FROM this life TO eternal life you must go                       THROUGH the tunnel of ________________.

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Digging Deeper

(For personal study, family devotions or Care group use)

Q1: If you had to choose two or three words to define your life right now, what would they be? Why did you choose those words?

Q2: In 2 Corinthians 4-5 Paul uses several word pictures to describe our life on planet earth; jars of clay (4:7), a tent (5:1), nakedness (5:3-4), away from home (5:8).
Which picture do you most connect to? Why?

Q3: Can you think of some times in your life when in order to get from something to something you had to go through something?  If so, explain.

Q4: Read 2 Corinthians 11:23-29 and 2 Timothy 4:9-18. What types of struggles did Paul come up against in his life?  Can you relate to any of them?  If so, explain. What motivated Paul to keep on going?

Q5: The Bible describes some unique transitions to heaven.  Read Genesis 5:22-24, 2 Kings 2:9-12 and Acts 7:54-60.  How are these transitions similar? Different?

Q6: What are you looking forward to most about heaven?
